Memories stay local
With cloud sync off, everything your character learns — its facts, tasks, and knowledge wiki — lives only in local storage on your device.
Prefer to keep things private? Turn cloud sync off and your character runs in enhanced privacy mode — its memories and chat history stay strictly on your device, never stored in Clanker's cloud database. Your character, your data, your device.

Your conversation history isn't uploaded or stored in our cloud database. It stays on your device unless you choose to sync.
Privacy mode is a simple per-character toggle. Keep some characters local-only and sync others across devices — it's up to you.
Every Clanker character has a Save to Cloud switch in its settings. Leave it off and that character is local-first: its memories and chat history are written only to your device's local storage, and are never copied into Clanker's cloud database or shared across your other devices.
To generate replies, your messages are still sent to Google's Gemini models for real-time processing in the cloud — that's how any modern AI assistant produces a response. The important difference in privacy mode is that this data is processed, not persisted: it is not saved to Clanker's cloud database, and your character's memory and history remain only on your device.
If you ever want a portable backup while staying local-first, you can export your character with Google's OKF straight to your own device or storage — no cloud account required.
